Classmates meet again after five decades

It was a jolly feast at Quarterdeck Pub and Grill, in Western Extension recently, when former learners of Benoni Technical High School saw each other again at a 50-year reunion.

“Some of these guys have not seen each other since school, which is 50 years ago,” said Steve Carmel, one of the organisers.

Another organiser Bill Harrison said: “It’s interesting when you have a mental image of someone from school, then you add 50 years once you meet them here.”

The school was previously based in the now abandoned building in Liverpool Road, Benoni South.

It was renamed Hoërskool Hans Moore and moved to Dalrymple Street, in Northmead, in the 1980s.

Naas Barnard (left) and Dave Godley left Benoni Technical High School after they finished Standard Nine, in 1968. Barnard lives in Mackenzie Park, while Godley travelled from White River, in Mpumalanga specially for the reunion.

Some old friends meet again after decades. Seen here are (from left): Mike van Rensburg, Raymond Price, Ken Price and Dave Godley.
