Rynfield Dam toilets are ‘disgusting’

The condition of the public toilets at Rynfield Dam has been described by several members of the local Parkrun as “disgusting”.

The Parkrun is an event held countrywide every Saturday.

“Our local one known as Ebotse Parkrun starts and finishes at C R Swart Park in Rynfield,” said a member of the run, Gavin Scott.

“We average between 500 and 1 000 runners every Saturday morning and many of the runners are from different parts of the country.

“We often have visitors from overseas and I am embarrassed as a Benoni citizen that our locals and visitors are subjected to the disgusting state of the public toilets.”

The Parkrun event director, Gary Jackson, said he constantly needs to apologise to the runners about the state of the toilets.

“I know that this is not an easy problem to resolve overnight,” Jackson said.

“But let’s make Benoni proud again – it used to be known as the ‘Jewel of the East Rand’. Now one wonders what to call Benoni.”

No response had been received from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) at the time of going to print.
