Two robbers sentenced to 15 years

The two men who robbed a learner of his possessions were sentenced in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on February 9.

Donald Sechabela (19) and Refilwe Sphiwe Mmusa (19) were sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Both Sechabela and Mmusa received 15 years imprisonment.

The two men were accused of stabbing the 18-year-old learner and robbing him of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money on December 5, 2016, at Voortrekker Street in the Benoni CBD.

An EMPD officer witnessed the boy chasing after the robbers and managed to apprehend Sechabela.

Mmusa was arrested later the same day.

The sentences will be served at the Modderbee Correctional Centre.

The Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, thanked the investigating officer in the case, Det-Sgt Donovan Naicker, for his sterling work.
