Speaking to the victim’s brother, Kevin (who worked for the City Times as a sports journalist), Barry started his Opel Corsa, which then went up in flames, at his Newton Avenue home.

Kevin said his brother sustained 50 to 70 per cent burns on his body, ranging from first degree to third degree burns.
“When we arrived on scene, he had jumped out of the burning vehicle; his back was on fire,” said ER24 spokesperson Sanjay Sukdeo.
Barry’s neighbour, Soaad Bham, said she heard what sounded like an explosion at around 6am.
“When I went to my bathroom window the car was alight,” she said.
Kevin said his critically injured brother was due to undergo surgery at the Life the Glynnwood Hospital at 3pm today.
