Bunny adoptions prove popular

The Bunny Park has received over 1 000 requests for the adoption of bunnies, from as far as Mokopane (Potgietersrus), in Limpopo.

The park will be closed to the public from March 1, for the start of the facility’s revamp.

The bunnies will remain at the park until they are adopted.

The first bunch will go to their new homes on March 11, a special adoption day, which will be repeated every fortnight.

Tania Forrest-Smith, founder of the Save the Bunny Park Animals group, said most of the 1 000 applications for adopting a bunny have already been approved.

She and her team will perform home checks to ensure the bunnies go to safe homes.

She said applications have come in from as far as Mokopane (Potgietersrus) and Emalahleni (Witbank), in Mpumalanga.

The bunnies still have to be sterilised.

The plan is to have most of the bunnies adopted and for only 50 sterilised bunnies to be kept at the park.

Most of the facility’s birds were also put up for adoption and have found new homes.

Forrest-Smith thanked the community for their support in adopting the animals.
