Reservist recognised for his dedication

Daveyton SAPS Reservist Constable John Malinga has been rewarded for the true dedication he has shown in serving and protecting his community.

Malinga recently received an award as the First Runner-up Reservist of the Year at the SAPS National Excellence Awards 2017.

The awards ceremony was held on January 27 at Sun City International Superbowl.

Malinga was also recognised as the Reservist of the Year at the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster 2016 Prestige Awards at the Gauteng SAPS 2016 Prestige Awards.

He said he decided to be a police reservist due to the crime rate in Daveyton.

Malinga joined the SAPS in 2002 and was in training until 2005.

When asked how he felt about receiving these awards, he said that he’s happy his hard work has been recognised at a national level.

“It gives me great joy to see that my work makes a difference in the community,” said Malinga.

The 36-year-old added that one day he would like to see himself as a Vispol commander, because he wants to fight drug use among the youth in the area.

He has been serving as a reservist for over 10 years, and encourages other police officers and reservists not to give up on their dreams, as only God knows the plans He has for them.

Malinga thanks his commanders, the Pastors’ Forum and everyone who has encouraged him through his journey.

The Pastors’ and Police Forum also gave Malinga an appreciation award for his hard work and dedication.

Chairperson and co-founder of the forum, Bishop Edwin Mariba, said they are proud to have such a young man who is committed to serving his community.

“He not only represented the police, but also the community,” said Mariba.

“We also encourage other reservists and police officers to be an example like Malinga.”
