Screams in Northmead chase robbers

Police were today still searching for at least two men involved in a Northmead robbery the day before.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the robbery took place on Third Avenue, at around 2.30pm.

Sekele said the complainant was outside hanging up washing, when two men entered the home and tied up her sons (aged 14 and 16).

The spokesperson said the teenagers were in the house with their elderly grandmother, who was not tied up.

While the complainant was hanging up the washing, the men approached her.

“They (robbers) instructed her to shut up,” said Sekele.

The spokesperson said the daughter climbed up a ladder near a wall and started screaming from the roof.

“The neighbours heard that and the suspects panicked and ran away,” said Sekele.

Sekele said the robbers made off with a TV, two cellphones, a laptop, jewellery and clothing.

The men fled in a white Toyota Camry; it’s unclear whether there was an accomplice waiting in the car.

A case of house robbery was opened.

No injuries were reported.
