University courses now offered at Benoni High

“This will be a first for any school in Ekurhuleni,” said Jake Ceronio, principal of Benoni High School.

“The aim is to challenge South Africa.”

Oakdale University has officially opened for registration, with lectures beginning as soon as Wednesday (January 18).

Based at Benoni High School, students have the option of applying for one, two or four-year courses at the institution.

The courses offered at the institution will include nursing, a Bachelor’s degree in commerce and a Bachelor’s degree in education.

There will be human resources and project management diplomas – and certificates in information technology and management.

Tuition costs range from R15 000 to R32 000, depending on the course.

Lectures will be done on the school premises and others will be interactive via the Internet.

Lectures will take place in the afternoons and the evenings, as well as on Saturdays.

“There’s no university in Ekurhuleni and this should be a great opportunity for people in Ekurhuleni to become qualified individuals,” said Ceronio.

According to Ceronio, qualifications will be accredited under the North West University in Potchefstroom.

“All of the courses that are offered here, are aimed at enhancing and equipping our future leaders because the only way we can change the country is through education,” he said.

Ceronio continued to say that this institution will be more affordable than other tertiary institutions.

He hopes the institution will grow from strength to strength – with future plans that include providing students with the opportunity to study courses via correspondence through the University of London.

According to Ceronio, this institution will be beneficial to Ekurhuleni, because the campus will produce well trained individuals who’ll add value within the community – without students having to travel far to obtain tertiary qualifications.
