Two men murdered while en route home

Two men were murdered while another one managed to escape after the three were attacked in an open field near Tom Jones Street last night (January 27).

The incident happened at around 10pm.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni Police Station spokesperson, said three men were walking to their Wattville home after having drinks in the Benoni CBD.

“Just after they passed the court, they were approached by a gang of men,” said Sekele.

Sekele said the group of men, believed to be around six in total, started stabbing the two who were later found deceased.

The third victim told police his jacket, money and two cellphones was stolen from him, after which he was told to run away.

A passerby found the body of one of the men in the veld this morning, while authorities discovered the second one near the corner of Tom Jones Street and Snake Road.

Sekele said the motive appears to be robbery.

Two murder cases have been opened.

The spokesperson urged people not to walk in isolated areas, especially at night.
