Local Ocean Basket owner will be missed

Andreas Pitrakkos (54), who was the owner of Ocean Basket at the Oakfields Shopping Centre, died on December 26; but his family will always keep his memory alive in their hearts.

Pitrakkos moved to Benoni in 2010, but was born and raised in Jules Street, Malvern. He was proud of his background because he told everyone he met, where he came from.

His friends and family will remember him for his kind heart and welcoming attitude to everyone he met. He was also a fearless, bubbly, jovial and big personality – he could joke, tease and have light-hearted conversations to put a smile on anyone’s face.

“He owned Ocean Basket for seven years,” said his daughter, Valentina Pitrakkos.

“He made sure that he visited every table when customers came to eat at the restaurant.”

Pitrakkos was a family-orientated man; he ensured that his customers and family remained as his main priority in life.

“He was also well-known for his famous peri-peri sauce, because he was so proud of it,” Valentina added.

“The majority of his customers were his friends, because he made everyone feel so welcome and at home.”

His family thanked their friends, fellow family members, customers and staff for the continuous support and comfort that they’ve received since his passing.

They consider their loss of a “legend” as a severe void in their lives.

He will be missed by his family, friends, customers and his wife, Anna, plus their daughters Valentina and Rafaella Pitrakkos.
