Four ‘starving’ dogs confiscated in Lakefield

The Benoni SPCA confiscated four “starving” dogs from a Lakefield property on January 19.

The organisation said on its Facebook page that the owner of the Great Danes was given a written warning, instructing her to take the animals to a veterinarian.

“The owner failed to comply and refused to sign the animals over, even after she admitted she was financially unable to afford food for them,” the Benoni SPCA said on its Facebook page.

SPCA staff entered the property with a warrant and confiscated the animals.

“It was a very difficult task as the dogs were not used to human interaction and were extremely scared,” the society said.

The animals were taken to the SPCA.

“All four animals were removed and taken for treatment to the Benoni SPCA.

“The dogs ate ravenously when presented with dog food.

“They have all been dipped, dewormed and provided with all the necessities to help them with a full recovery.”
