Hans Moore walks away with revue award

Hoërskool Hans Moore came out on top during Revue 2016, in which schools from across the country competed at Carnival City.

The Northmead school’s show competed against those of six other high schools in the Lefra Productions competition.

The school’s revue show, titled “Daar is ‘n Tyd” (There is a Time) was also named the overall winner of Revue 2016, held between the primary and high schools.

Though the finals were held in September, at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City, the final episode was broadcast on KykNet Nou! on December 26.

Judges Lizz Meiring, Pieter Smith and John Jacobs had some trouble deciding upon the winner of the high school section.

“I found it great that the high school participants gave it their all,” Meiring said.

“It’s a privilege to perform on a stage and these kids proved throughout the competition they have complete respect for the stage.”

Smith said: “I really enjoyed the great singing of the revues.”

“It was also wonderful to see how enthusiastically the high school competitors sang and danced.”

Hans Moore won R25 000 in prize money and R25 000 worth of meat with the compliments of Meat World, the competition’s main sponsor.

Hans Moore principal, Ertjies Hattingh, said it’s a year-long process, preparing a revue.

“A school only wins a competition like this with extraordinary staff and exceptional learners and a lot of hard work,” he said.

Hattingh said the prize money will be used to extend and improve the cultural extracurricular activities at the school, while the meat will be used in the school’s feeding scheme.

The feeding scheme supports learners who grow up in relative poverty.
