Korsman a community service hours opportunity

The Korsman Conservancy in Westdene is facing a 'weed emergency' and needs your help this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to remove the plants.

The emergency comes as a result of the vigorous germination, after the rains.

“I will be holding work parties from 8.30am until 11am for all three days,” said chairperson of the conservancy, Jane Trembath.

“We’ll be targeting purple top and fleabane (weeds), with full training provided.”

All volunteers need to meet at the Kilfenora gate (opposite 92, The Drive) by 8.30am.

Volunteers need to wear gumboots or sturdy shoes; and a hat.

They also need to bring gardening gloves and bottled water to drink.

“If you have a garden fork you may find it handy, but digging isn’t necessary,” Trembath added.

“I also wouldn’t mind if you have your binoculars or camera, for after the weed pull.”

The event is also an opportunity for scholars, who need community service hours.

“(We) Hope to see you on one of the days; bring your friends,” Trembath added.
