Darin was the outstanding student, recording nine distinctions (Level 7).
He was in the top one per cent nationally in life sciences, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics, accounting and physical science, as well as on the outstanding list of candidates (top five per cent of candidates in six subjects).
The 18-year-old obtained distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, accounting, life orientation, information technology and advanced programme mathematics.
Despite Darin’s excellent achievement, he felt he could have done better in advance programme English.
“Getting 78 per cent for AP English was disappointing, as it meant that I missed ten distinctions by two per cent, said Darin.
“However, I am proud of myself; all the hard work definitely paid off in the end.
The sport fanatic said he balanced social life and school, by simply focusing on his school work during the week and on weekends it’s social life before school, unless there are any assignments.
He’ll be studying medicine at the this year.
“I’ll study medicine so that I can find a way to combine the use of technology and medical knowledge, to improve health care in our country.
Darin added that having a supportive structure is essential, whether its friends, family or teachers.
“Students should graciously take advantage of the support they receive, so they don’t have any unnecessary stress in an already stressful position (matric).
