Two night fires rage in Benoni

Nobody was injured in two separate fires in Benoni last night (January 5).

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to a fire in Falkirk Road, just outside Wattville, at around 7.30pm.

Leon Jordaan, spokesperson for DEMS, said two trucks were initially sent out to contain the fire, which had engulfed a warehouse.

“The fire spread to four other warehouses, and a roof collapsed due to the fire,” Jordaan said.

He added that a specialised truck had to be brought in to fight the fire from above as well.

Jordaan said the blaze was contained by 2am.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

In a separate incident, a delivery vehicle caught fire on the corner of Tenth Avenue and First Street, in Northmead.

Two fire trucks were at the scene at around 11.20pm and the blaze was suppressed soon afterwards.
