A breakdown of Benoni schools’ 2016 matric results

Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, congratulated South African matrics who performed well in the 2016 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

Learners from Willowmoore High School are up in the air after collecting their matric certificates.

The national pass rate for 2016 increased to 72.5 per cent from last year’s 70.7 per cent.

Gauteng’s overall pass rate is 87 per cent.

Below is a breakdown of Benoni schools’ performance, in alphabetical order:

• Belvedere School

2016 pass rate: 88 per cent

2015 pass rate: 87 per cent

Matric pupils: 26

Distinctions: 0

Principal Hannes du Plessis’s comment: “We are happy with the results. We would have liked for all our learners to pass. Belvedere made a difference in the lives of 23 learners with special education needs. That is very precious to us.”

2016 pass rate: 100 per cent

2015 pass rate: 62.7 per cent

Principal Henning Malan’s comment: “Our students and teachers have worked very hard. We had a problem with our results last year, we were not satisfied and to improve with more than 10 percent is excellent. We had a new subject Religious Studies and the students did well, with also satisfied with our Maths and Science results.”
