Cutting-torch ATM suspects arrested

Four men tried to remove an ATM from the wall using a cutting torch in Etwatwa.

The incident occurred on December 19 at Pinky’s shop around 2am.

The would-be bandits, however, failed in their attempt.

Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson, Capt Pheello Mothapo, said police received a tip-off from a member of the community.

“Police went to the store and the four men were arrested while attempting to cut and torch the ATM,” said Mothapo.

No money was taken from the ATM.

The suspects were arrested and will appear in court soon.

Mothapo added that police are still investigating whether the suspects are linked to other ATM cut-and-torch cases in the area.

A case of business burglary was opened at Etwatwa Police Station.
