Five bomb safe and escape with cash

Five suspects armed with rifles and handguns bombed a drop safe; and escaped with all the cash.

The men entered a petrol station on Kingsway Road, Crystal Park at around 2am, on December 7.

“Two had rifles and the other three were armed with handguns,” said Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson.

“They were wearing balaclavas.”

Maritz said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

“The Germiston Explosive Unit took over the scene after the initial SAPS inspection,” she added.

The suspects escaped with cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

At the time of publishing, Maritz said no arrests had been made.

A case of business robbery was opened at the Crystal Park Police Station.
