The Benoni SPCA confiscated the animals from a Seventh Avenue home, following a complaint from a community member.
Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Benoni SPCA, said a female Great Dane was in a terrible condition.
“The dog was living in a filthy area and she was emaciated,” said Finnemore.
“We suspect she’d been eating her own faeces.”
She said a veterinarian found the canine was infested with worms.
The SPCA also removed two marmoset monkeys.
“They were also living in filthy conditions and didn’t always have clean water,” said Finnemore.
Finnemore said the residents on the property explained the animals weren’t taken care of, as they didn’t have money.
The SPCA said people who are battling financially, can approach the SPCA for assistance when their pets need to see a veterinarian.
A case of cruelty to animals will be opened.
