Cakes donated to local charities

The Benoni branch of the South African Cake Decorators Guild baked seven cakes to donate to seven local charities on November 16.

The beneficiaries are Kids Haven, Manger Care Centre, Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc), Benoni SPCA, Solidarity Helping Hand Benoni, iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre and the Benoni Baptist Church.

In the spirit of Christmas, members of the organisation baked Christmas cakes for the charities.

Most of the charities said they would share their cake with staff members, but the Benoni SPCA said they would raffle their cake to raise more funds.

“This is a wonderful event and a blessing; where would we be without people like this?” asked Riaan Smalberger, from the Manger Care Center.

The non-profit organisation has been operating for 40 years with branches in other areas.

Currently the organisation has 32 members and holds meetings on the third Wednesday of every month at the Benoni Baptist Church.

The aim is to further the interest of cake baking.
