Two sisters are exchanging their collection of Pick n Pay animal cards and stikeez for animal food.

Nikité (20) and Angelique (23) de Bruyn, who are animal lovers at heart, recently started the initiative after realising how sought-after the collectables are.

Big Five cards are exchanged for an 8kg bag of cat or dog food – as these cards are scarce – and 4kg of food is accepted in exchange for stikeez.

Nikité said ordinary cards will be exchanged for a 2kg bag of cat or dog food.

Tinned food is also accepted.

Their goal is to collect at least a ton of food before Christmas, to be donated to four shelters, that have not yet been determined.

Since they started the project on October 25, they have advertised their project on social media platforms and, as a result, they have collected 166kg of dog and cat food.

They currently have 1 000 cards and 60 to trade.

Meanwhile, the sisters run an initiative called Paw Box Project.

The boxes need to be filled with necessities for the dogs and cats.

“Each box must contain two food items, a blanket or jersey (something warm), shampoo or a bowl, a toy and a treat,” said Angelique.

Any dog or cat food, toys, blankets, shampoo, collars or the like can be donated.

Boxes can be dropped off at HotSpot, 43 Mimosa Street, Northmead Extension Four.
