Help find stolen bus

The Daveyton Association for the Physically Disabled is urging the community to help them find their stolen bus.

The bus was stolen on November 16 on Mphemfu Street, Daveyton.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said it is alleged that the driver of the vehicle parked the bus and then went to open the gate.

“Suddenly, three men approached him and demanded the vehicle; one of the three men was armed,” said Sekele.

The hijackers drove off with the white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Social worker from the centre, Antoinette Muswera, said they use the bus to accommodate people with physical disabilities, especially those who use wheelchairs and crutches.

“We also use the bus to assist members of the community who require transportation and we use the bus for awareness campaigns all over Ekurhuleni to raise awareness about disability,” said Muswera.

Muswera said mentally challenged people are now unable to reach the centre as there is no transport.

“We fear the girls are exposed and vulnerable, and others with physical disabilities can’t sit in the van which does not have a canopy,” she said.

No arrests have been made.

A case of hijacking was opened at the Daveyton SAPS.
