Female officers issue fines worth thousands

Female officers issued a total of R7 300 in fines for various traffic law transgressions today (November 23).

The roadblock was set up on Eislen Street, Daveyton near the Etwatwa Customer Care Centre, and comprised women officers from the Benoni SAPS, Gautrans and Etwatwa student health workers.

A total of 200 vehicles were stopped and searched in the three-hour operation.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, said the operation was part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, which will commence on November 25.

“It was also an attempt to reduce crimes, including car hijackings and house robberies, among others,” said Sekele.

The officers distributed pamphlets to educate motorists on how to report crime.

The student health workers distributed condoms.
