School pupil (18) opens false rape case

Police are investigating a case of perjury, after an 18-year-old woman claimed to have been raped by her ex-step-father.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Commander Maj-Gen Poobalan Subbiah said the matric pupil went to a local hospital on Tuesday, claiming she was raped by her mother’s ex-husband.

Subbiah said the woman, who is a pupil at a Benoni High School, claimed to have been raped between October 16 to 21 at her Boksburg home.

“The Tactical Team went out last night (November 1) to go and arrest the suspect,” added Subbiah.

“The suspect was found, but after investigation and checking photos and videos on the suspect’s laptop, we found that the victim was never raped.”

After a police interrogation, the 18-year-old admitted that she was never raped, saying she opened the case after she “saw the suspect and his new girlfriend’s profile picture on WhatsApp”, Subbiah explained.

“The truth then emerged that the supposed rape victim and the suspect, who is the ex-husband of the supposed rape victim’s mother, were in a sexual relationship,” Subbiah concluded.

“She was jealous of the new girlfriend and therefore opened the false rape case against him.”

No arrest has been made.
