Status of murder suspect is questioned

After his second bail application, on October 31, Tawfak Gepril was remanded in custody until November 3, for his status to be established.

It was unclear whether the suspect is in South Africa legally or not, therefore, he was remanded in custody until further clarification on his status is provided.

Gepril was charged with robbery and murder, in connection with a burnt body that was discovered on September 23, in Putfontein.

He has made several appearances in the Benoni Magistrates Court since his first appearance, on October 7, when the case was postponed to October 12, for legal aid.

He made his second appearance in the court on October 12, after receiving legal aid, and the case was postponed again, to October 18, for an identity parade.

After making his third appearance, the case was postponed to October 24, for a bail application, and then again, to October 31, for his second bail application.
