Morehill residents object to mast

A petition is doing the rounds to stop a cellular mast tower from being built along Carina Avenue.

According to Ward 27’s Clr Jacques Meiring, residents in Morehill Glen have started two petitions: one written and one online.

“Residents have contacted the relevant parties and the correct procedure will be followed,” said Meiring. “It is where they live, they have the right to object.”

Residents have until November 14 to submit their objections to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Carina Avenue resident Francois Greyvenstein said: “If this mast is erected, I’ll put my house on the market. “I have a baby and a young child and I’m responsible for their for their future. The proposed location of the mast is dangerous and not acceptable.”

According to Debbie Charge, treasurer of Morehill Glen Security Committee, residents have a strong resentment towards the plan to erect the cellular mast.

Charge said residents raised issues such as health hazards and the fact that investors will not want to invest in the suburb.

Meiring said if residents don’t want the mast, they don’t have to have it there.
