Dog’s owner refuses to give up

A woman’s desperate, 12-week search for her dog has resulted in her spending R18 000 on advertising and clocking about 2 500km in mileage.

Springs resident Michelle Myburgh has been searching for Neena since July 29.

The City Times reported in August on a dead dog found on a pavement in Western Extension.

Thinking it could be hers, Myburgh and two friends spent about two-and-a-half hours sifting through rubbish to find the carcass at the Weltevreden Landfill, but their search ended fruitlessly.

The dog owner has spent R18 000 on advertising, which included several newspaper advertisements (one was published on page 2 of last week’s City Times), flyers and Facebook boosts.

The advert includes some of the following information about Neena:

• She is a 3.5-year-old Staffie.

• She is reddish/dark brown in colour.

• “I have a white patch on my chest that almost looks like an X. My front toenails are very short. There is a small patch on my hind leg with no hair growth, about the size of a R5 coin. I’m very friendly.”

In the middle of the advertisement, a reward of R10 000 is offered for her safe return; no questions asked.

“I feel she is still somewhere; I don’t think she is dead,” Myburgh said.

Despite all the money and time invested in the search, she believes the right person has just not seen the adverts, saying she thinks somebody must have taken Neena in as a stray.

“I will search until I find her,” she said.

“I have said that if I have to sell my car, I will.”

Myburgh said she can’t forget about Neena – despite many people’s calls for her to do so on social media, saying the pooch is part of her family.
