Victoria’s dream comes true

Dreams of becoming a princess do come true, especially for Miss Benoni 2016, Victoria Welthagen (20), who imagined being Miss Benoni since she was a little girl.

BCT: Why was becoming Miss Benoni so important to you?

VW: Ever since I can remember it’s been a dream of mine to win the title of Miss Benoni.

I remember looking in the Benoni City Times every year as a little girl and seeing our newly crowned Mr and Miss Benoni.

I said to myself that one day that is going to be me, because I want to represent my city.

BCT: How would you rate the journey from where you were to where you are now as Miss Benoni?

VW: It did not happen overnight.

It took years of preparation, confidence building and much more.

Only on my fourth attempt did my dream come true.

From day one of the competition Jaryd Buchler, myself and our amazing sponsor, Margie Smith (owner of Dynamic Fitness), said we are in this together – win or lose we are a team.

BCT: What makes Benoni so important to you?

VW: Benoni is where I grew up, it’s my home, it’s close to my heart, it’s my roots and will always be a part of who I am.

I have had a wonderful childhood and memories growing up in Benoni.

It is known as “The City of Lakes” and I believe Benoni is also the city of stars, with the likes of Charlize Theron and Charlene Wittstock.

I grew up in Cloverdene and still live in the same house, so no matter where I go, Benoni will always be home.

BCT: How did you feel when you were announced Miss Benoni?

VW: I was extremely overwhelmed and it was the happiest moment of my life.

BCT: What does the title Miss Benoni mean to and for you?

VW: It’s the opportunity of a lifetime; it’s not just a title.

Benoni is close to my heart and I’m determined to make a difference.

I plan to do a lot of fund-raising next year and I want to be a voice for those who do not have one, especially the SPCA, which is really close to my heart.

BCT: Apart from trying to make a difference in society, what else would you say the Miss Benoni title expects of you?

VW: There are other expectations that come hand-in-hand with the title of Miss Benoni like staying beautiful, fit, healthy and setting an example as you now represent your city.

BCT: Tell us a bit about yourself?

VW: I attended Shanan Christian School, was home-schooled in my final two years and matriculated in 2014.

My family means the world to me and I am so blessed to have my inspiration and my other half, my twin sister Kathrin and my amazing parents, Shaun and Esmeralda, who are always loving and supportive.

BCT: Tell us about your day now that you are Miss Benoni?

VW: I wake up at 5am to train with my sponsor and personal trainer at Dynamic Fitness.

I return home and get ready for work and spend time on my studies.

During the evenings, I’ll either train or dance if I don’t have events on.

BCT: What hobbies do you have?

VW: My hobbies and passions include photography (various courses) and nail technology (Camelot International).

I have completed courses in both.

I have completed internship in real estate and I’m currently busy with my degree.

I love dancing and have been doing modern, Irish, and tap over a period of 17 years.

BCT: What are your future plans?

VW: I am studying towards my Master’s in real estate, having completed my internship.

I work for L Properties while doing my studies.

I plan to audition and represent my town in the 60th annual Miss South Africa Pageant in 2017 for 2018.
