Remember the fallen

The Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) East Rand District Dugout will hold its annual Remembrance Day Service at the Reveille Shellhole, on November 13, at 10.30am.

“We call on all citizens of Benoni, who have, in the past, participated in the parade, to continue doing so in memory of all the servicemen and women who have paid the supreme sacrifice,” said Moth Garth Tighe, parade coordinator.

The service will be attended by the SAPS, military and ex-servicemen’s associations, as well as civic organisations and youth groups.

The service is commemorated around the world on the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

“This is significant in world history, as this is the time when the guns fell silent, indicating the end the war,” said Tighe.

“Many thought that this would be the war to end all wars.”

Entrance to the parade is free.

The parade will set off at 10.40am, led by the Benoni High School Pipe Band.

The band will also play for around 20 minutes after the parade.

If you would like to lay a wreath in memory of loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice during times of war, contact the Reveille Shellhole Old Bill, Kenny Godfrey, on 083 455 7466 to confirm your participation.
