UPDATE: Man stabbed during quarrel with intruder

A Northmead man (60) was stabbed during a home invasion after he grabbed the suspect to try prevent him from escaping through a window.

The victim was stabbed and assaulted at his Sixth Street home on October 17, at about 5.20am.

“I heard the man entering my house because I have wooden floors,” said Lee Stockenstrom.

“I saw the man escaping through my kitchen window, so I pulled him back into the house.”

According to Stockenstrom, the two fought in the kitchen until the intruder grabbed a plate from the sink and hit him over the head.

He said the assailant fled after stabbing him in the back, using a knife from his kitchen.

“I have stitches all over my body, from my nose, ears, lip, forehead, eye, knee, to my feet,” said Stockenstrom.

The victim then hit the panic button and called his father, who lives on the property.

“The ambulance took me to hospital and I’m still here,” Stockenstrom explained to the City Times on Monday afternoon.

He was transported by ambulance to the Netcare Linmed Hospital.

Still uncertain whether or not he made the right decision, by pulling the home invader back into his house – Stockenstrom shared his story with the City Times, because he said that people need to be cautious about their surroundings.

“People have asked me if I saw his face, which I did but I don’t remember it, because the whole fight was a rush and it was all a blur,” Stockenstrom added.

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said no arrests have been made.

A skeleton docket of attempted murder and house robbery has been opened.
