Man stabbed in Northmead home

A 60-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in a Northmead home this morning.

Benoni Police Station spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said the victim was asleep when he was awakened by an intruder in the kitchen of the Sixth Street home, at around 5am.

The victim’s father, who was asleep in a flat on the property, said his son woke him after the incident.

“I came out [of the flat] and he was standing over here [on the stoep] with blood all over the place,” the man said.

“His face was covered in blood; his legs were covered in blood.”

The City Times visited the scene and saw what appears to be blood on the stoep and inside the kitchen.

Police have not been able to take a statement from the victim as yet, as he has apparently been sedated in the Netcare Linmed Hospital.

Sekele said a skeleton docket of attempted murder and house robbery has been opened.

No arrests have been made.
