One wounded in shoot-out with EMPD

A suspected criminal was wounded in a shoot-out with the EMPD and a vehicle tracking company, in Etwatwa, on Monday, October 3.

Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, said a light delivery vehicle was hijacked in Nigel on the same day.

“The tracker company was immediately informed of the hijacking and, together with the EMPD Community Liaison Unit officers, the vehicle tracking company officers detected the signal repeating in Etwatwa and sprang into action,” said Kgasago.

The vehicle was seen on Nobela Street, in Mandela Section.

“A high speed chase ensued and the suspects started shooting at the metro police and the tracking company officers,” Kgasago added.

“The metro police and the tracking company officers returned fire, resulting in one suspect being wounded, while his accomplice managed to escape.”

The 33-year-old, wounded suspect was arrested and a 9mm pistol was recovered after the Toyota Hilux crashed into the fence of a house in Nobela Street.

The wounded suspect was transported under police guard to the Far East Rand Hospital, in Springs.

The recovered vehicle was towed to the SAPS Van Ryn pound.
