Plot residents will drive more smoothly soon

Parts of Gum Road, in the Benoni Agricultural Holdings, and Skool Street, in Marister, should be completely resurfaced before the end of the year.

According to Clr Pieter Henning (Ward 25), the work on Gum Road should be finished around early November.

“The contractor started there about a month ago and, although there are challenges, they are going on well,” Henning said on September 21.

The main challenge cited by the councillor is the narrow width of the road, limiting the construction team.

“Because the road is so narrow, they also won’t be able to put in storm water drains on Gum Road; the road itself will serve to channel away water,” Henning added.

“A section of Skool Street is also being resurfaced.

“The same contractor is working on both roads and Skool Street should be completed by early October, as work there started two months ago.”

The Ekurhuleni Metro was approached for comment, but none had been received at the time of going to print.
