Caleb receives sponsorship

Caleb Mutombo (19) trains hard behind closed doors in the hope of becoming a bodybuilder, and his perseverance is now paying off.

Ryan Manthe, co-owner of Trinergy Health and Fitness in Northmead, read Mutombo’s story in the newspaper dated September 23 about his yearn to own his own gym and become a bodybuilder.

“I was inspired by Caleb’s passion for bodybuilding, so I got in touch with Kids Haven to meet Caleb,” said Manthe.

Mutombo suffers from a disease called sickle-cell anaemia.

He is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) but relocated to South Africa when he was two years old, in search of medical assistance.

After reading the article, Manthe and the co-owners of Nitro Health and Nutrition in Rynfield decided to sponsor Mutombo with the necessities needed to become a personal trainer.

“Caleb will receive a gym membership with Trinergy for as long as he wants it,” Manthe said.

“We will also transport him to and from Kids Haven and he will complete a course with the Trifocus Fitness Academy on basic exercise science, which will lead to a personal training diploma.”

The co-owners of Nitro Health and Nutrition, Shaun Meredith and Ashton Endres, were also inspired by Mutombo’s perseverance and decided to sponsor him with the required supplements.

“We decided to help Caleb because he is motivated,” said Meredith.

“He inspired us because despite his challenges, he still wants to help others.”

Mutombo is excited about his future in bodybuilding and working with the team involved in helping him make his dreams come true.

“I have the opportunity to make my dreams a reality,” said Mutombo.

“I am grateful to Ryan, especially because I had so much stress to make my dreams come true.”
