Police retrieve body of boy (10)
A 10-year-old boy drowned in Chief Albert Luthuli Park Extension Six today (September 27).
Tryna Maritz, acting Crystal Park SAPS communications officer, said police received notification of the incident just before noon.
Maritz said two boys were swimming and two more children were standing on the banks of the water, when one of the children went under the water.
She said the other boy who was in the dam tried pulling his friend back to the surface, but was unsuccessful.
The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) Water Rescue Team, SAPS officials and the K-9 Water Wing collectively searched for the body, which took over two hours.
The child’s body was recovered shortly after 3pm.
An inquest docket has been opened.
