The accident took place when the vehicle was travelling east, at around 7pm on September 18.
According to Siphelele Mahlaba, spokesperson for Maponya 911, paramedics reported the car may have been travelling on a road parallel to the highway, though he could not confirm which road.
William Ntladi, media liaison officer for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (Dems), said a rescue team from the Benoni CBD fire station responded to the scene, involving a single light motor vehicle.
“On the scene, it was found that the driver, who was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, had sustained fatal injuries due to the accident,” Ntladi said.
He said paramedics declared the man dead on the scene and the EMPD would further investigate the matter.
