EMM hosts hackathon challenge

Tech savvy and innovative minds are invited to a weekend-long hackathon, to develop IT solutions that will help the municipality accelerate service delivery in an efficient manner.

The Ekurhuleni Hackathon will be held from Friday, September 30, to Sunday, October 2, under the theme: A Digitally Connected City.

The event will see close to 250 developers, web designers and engineers using various technologies, hardware and APIs to turn their ideas into practical solutions for the municipality, according to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

Hackathon challenges will be presented to the various teams to solve through big data, analytics, apps and open data.

The prototypes will be pitched on the last day of the hackathon, when the winning teams will be selected by the judges for a share of R150 000 in prize money.

To register, participants may visit www.emmhack.co.za and secure a spot to stand a chance to be part of the winning team.

For more information, residents and businesses wishing to sponsor and partner with the Ekurhuleni Hackathon may contact Lydia.Ntlhophi@ekurhuleni.gov.za and mixo@geekulcha.com for all the logistics and information about the hackathon.

The event will take place in the Germiston Banquette Hall, on the corner of Long and Cross streets.
