‘Awesome, awesome, awesome’ golf day at Ebotse

It was extremely fitting that the annual fund-raiser for local charities has blossomed into an event that is truly remarkable.

What better facility to provide the setting for the golf day than the strikingly beautiful Ebotse Links?

The course, recovering from the dryness of winter, provided a stern test for the experienced campaigners in the field and an imposing, yet educational, time for the novices who took it on.

Thirty-six four-balls took to the course to swing their clubs and find the bottom of the cups, all in the name of Animal Lovers Project Swing (ALPS), who do incredible work for our furry friends in the Etwatwa township, and LifeLine Ekurhuleni, who have assisted many people in need throughout the region.

Both non-profit organisations have felt the wrath of a trying economy and participants on the day could breathe easy, knowing that they had given their Mandelas for local animals and people in need.

Once again, Benoni’s favourite son, Paul Rotherham, handled the prize-giving MC duties with aplomb, in his own, unique Benonian style.

Each four-ball received a prize on the evening and had their taste buds tickled by a delectable meal of chicken pie.

At the time of going to print the total funds raised had not yet been finalised and will be published soon.

For a second year running proud Benoni establishment and title sponsors Buco Rietpan threw their weight behind the golf day.

The branch manager of Buco Rietpan, Christo de Klerk, was full of praise for the way in which the golf day was planned and organised.

“It was even better than last year and was absolutely amazing,” he said.

“All our customers and suppliers who played on the day were raving about it, so we will definitely be back on board next year.

“As Buco Rietpan we try to serve the community as best as possible.

“If we could give more to the charities we would.”

De Klerk used the adjective “awesome” numerous times to describe the day: “Everything was simply awesome.

“From the golf to the food to the people, it was awesome, awesome, and awesome.”

He thanked Ebotse Links for being an excellent host, as always.

Hein Papenfus, CEO of Ebotse Links, said: “The day, for me, was just another reminder of how important relationships are.

“Our [Ebotse Links’] relationship with the City Times and Caxton Newspapers is a very special one and the annual Benoni City Times Buco Rietpan Charity Golf Day is one of the highlights of the year.

“We are proud to be the host of this annual get-together of like-minded people, who all have one common goal of helping the charities that are associated with this day.

“Well done to everyone involved in the day, it was really special.”
