Money destroyed during ATM bombing

An ATM was bombed on Tuesday morning (August 23), at a petrol station in Heald Street, Daveyton.

The incident occurred at around 3.15am.

According to Ekurhuleni Central Cluster SAPS spokesperson Const Zunickha Essakjee, police were patrolling around the area when they saw a man with a rifle at the petrol station.

“Police went to the Daveyton Police Station for back-up,” she said.

Essakjee said that on their way back to the petrol station, an unknown number of occupants in a silver Toyota Corolla started firing at the police vehicle.

Police returned fire.

The suspects drove away, but they were unable to steal any money as it was destroyed by the bombing.

No arrests or injuries were reported.

A case of ATM bombing and attempted murder was opened at the Daveyton Police Station.
