Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said three armed men in a black Audi Q5 stopped behind the vehicle of a man and his co-worker.
The two were going to bank money at the mall.
Essakjee added that the three men, one of whom was armed with an AK47 and the other two with pistols, approached the vehicle as the occupants were getting out.
They then forced the victims back into the car and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash which they had found in the front of the motor vehicle, as well as coins which were in the boot.
Chantell Roemer, Lakeside Mall general manager, confirmed the incident.
No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.
