Water required for 206 pigs on highway

The Benoni SPCA needs your help to provide water to 206 pigs that been been stuck on the N12 highway since 11am this morning (August 15).

According to Benoni SPCA inspector Zama Mabena, the truck carrying the animals broke down on the N12, under the Putfontein Road bridge, when travelling towards Johannesburg.

Mabena said a replacement truck was too weak to dislodge the horse from the truck’s trailer.

The inspector said the truck now needs to undergo repair, and it is not certain when this will be completed.

In the meantime, Mabena said the pigs are starting to get restless, and they are also without water.

He said it won’t be possible to provide the pigs with water on the floor of their compartments, but they could be given water in 2l bottles through the trailer’s railings.

Anybody who can donate water in 2l water bottles can do so by dropping them off at the Benoni City Times office, in the Northmead Square.

The SPCA has urged the community not to drop off water on the highway, as it could cause an accident.
