Inspiring the youth through his writing

“It has always been a dream to make a difference in other people’s lives.”

These are the words of Lonwabo Maseko, author of “The Best I Was Created To Be”.

The Daveyton resident is passionate about inspiring people through words and motivations.

He relaunched his book, which was first published in 2015, on April 17.

The book has 29 chapters on 29 years of his life’s journey.

Each chapter is a compilation of motivation that focuses on different circumstances that he managed to overcome.

Maseko’s love for writing started in 2004, after he failed Grade 11.

“After failing Grade 11, I got a wake-up call. If I hadn’t failed I wouldn’t have had the desire to motivate other kids,” said Maseko.

Maseko has always known that he was destined to lead and make a difference in his community.

Growing up in a township has led him on a journey of self-discovery.

“Growing up in Daveyton had its ups and downs but there was always a positive side to it,” he said.

“I became more educational, streetwise and brave enough to go after things that I really wanted in life.”

He started writing the book to let go of pain and, struggles and he wanted his peers to be well informed.

Maseko lost his mother, Nomboniso Myathaza, at the age of five.

“I did not have the privilege of being raised my parents. It might seem unfair that I had to go through such a painful experience, but God had a perfect plan for me,” he explained.

“The book will help give you a better understanding of why you had to go through everything that you faced in the past.”

In 2006, he got an opportunity to train as a professional life skills and HIV/Aids education facilitator at the Gauteng Department of Education.

“That’s when most doors opened up for me. As a facilitator I got to complete a leadership course and a public speaking course too.”

He added that this was when he got to hold motivational talks in different companies, schools and universities.

At just 29, Maseko is a life coach, businessman and founder of 1 Man and Woman Can Change The World non-profit organisation.

The organisation focuses mostly on youth development. It gives different stakeholders a platform to share information with young people in the form of workshops and seminars to inspire them.

“The foundation was inspired by a street kid,” he said.

“After seeing how that street kid lived, I was touched to make a difference.”

With his continued passion for writing, Maseko is currently working on his second book.

Maseko’s message to the youth is, “Nothing is impossible. Never allow fear to stop you from achieving your goals.”

The book is currently not available at any bookstores yet.
