Dead dog dumped in plastic bags on woman’s pavement

A Western Extension resident was shocked, following the discovery of a dead dog that had been dumped on her pavement.

Cheryl Kearney, who lives on Bright Street, was informed by her gardener, Peter Changaloa, of the discover this morning (August 12), at about 9am.

“Somebody obviously dumped it here, which makes you wonder whether it was dead or alive when it was left,” said Kearney.

The female dog appeared to have been wrapped in three black bags.

There were wounds around its neck.

The canine’s ears were not cropped. Cropped ears often mean the animal was involved in dog fighting.

“I am a great animal lover and I am so disgusted when I see this,” said Kearney, who owns 13 cats and two dogs.

“I just wish people who do this would suffer.”

The metro’s solid waste department collected the dog’s remains just before noon.

Manager of the Benoni SPCA, Vicky Finnemore, said it is “very common” for dead dogs to be dumped in open spaces.

“They even dump them here at the SPCA,” she added.

She urged people to make use of vets, the municipality or the SPCA to assist with discarding of their pet’s carcass.

People can have their dog cremated through the SPCA for a minimum fee of about R300.

“Where are your morals if you dump your dog that you have had for so many years?” Finnemore questioned.
