Man shot on business premises

Renier Theron, owner of Ren-Tech Auto Panelbeaters in Lake Avenue, died on Saturday (August 6) after a former employee allegedly shot him the previous day.

“The victim was 40 years old and was shot twice in his upper body,” said Benoni Police Station spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele.

Theron was allegedly shot on the business premises after a wage dispute.

“The suspect worked at the panel beater for two days until he had a dispute with the owner,” said Sekele.

The suspect collected his salary on Friday (August 5) for the two days he worked.

When he collected his money from a worker at the panel beater, he was unhappy with the amount and demanded to see the owner.

Sekele said the employee allegedly shot Theron and ran away.

Theron was airlifted to Netcare Union hospital in a critical condition.

Initially a case of attempted murder was opened at the Benoni Police Station on Friday (August 5), but after his death, the case changed to murder.

No arrests have been made.
