Man shot in CBD over money dispute

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Benoni Police Station on Friday (August 5) after the owner of a panelbeating business was allegedly shot by his former employee.

The incident happened at a business in the Benoni CBD.
“The suspect worked at the panel beater for two days until he had a dispute with the owner,” said Benoni Police Station spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele.
“The suspect was then told to leave and collect his salary on Friday for the two days he worked.”
However, around noon, when the suspect collected his salary from a worker at the panel beater, he was unhappy with the amount and demanded to see the owner, Sekele said.
“As the owner approached the suspect, the suspect shot him twice in his upper body and ran away,” Sekele added.
The owner was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
Police could not confirm his current condition at the time of publishing.
