Your new Ward 29 councillor

The elected councillor for Ward 29, Haseena Ismail, said her ward has “many, many” issues, but she said she will do her utmost to address them.

The DA councillor won the ward from ANC candidate Imtiaz Loonat, who was again contesting the ward in this local government election.

The DA received 43.65 per cent of the vote (5 606 votes), while the ANC finished with 37.35 per cent (4 797 votes).

Ismail said some of the issues plaguing her ward are the structural defects at the council-owned flats in Actonville and the “high” market-related rentals of some of these flats and the issue of not enough accommodation.

“Ward 29 has many, many issues and my residents tell me Actonville is becoming a ghost town,” said Ismail.

“I cannot say I will perform a miracle, but I will certainly try.”

Ismail said issues within her ward could be solved more efficiently under a DA-run Ekurhuleni.

“I hope to serve each and every resident to the best of my ability,” Ismail added.

“… I want to bring the change that creates jobs, stop corruption and deliver services to our people.”
