Kabelo humbled to win

The DA’s Kabelo Mahonko is humbled and excited to be the new Ward 24 councillor and she has big dreams for the ward.

The DA won 71.83 per cent (13 983 votes) and the ANC 18.75 per cent (3 650 votes), with the EFF claiming 5.9 per cent (1 149 votes).

She takes over from Stefanie Ueckermann.

“I am so humbled by the people who supported me and I will serve the entire community by giving the best of myself in all that I do,” Mahonko said.

“The primary goal is the infrastructure for roads, electricity and water.”

Not only does she have infrastructure goals, she also wants to contribute to social development.

“It is an idea, but I would like to build a hall and learning centre, like a library, in the ward, which will be opened to the whole Benoni community,” she said.

“But we need to work together as a community in order to make these dreams achievable.”

Mahonko also said she will follow up with solutions, when issues arise, with regards to making sure that there is some form of progress.

“Service delivery is important,” she said.

“It is also so important to be the voice of the people, so I will strive to be their voice and to maintain communication with them.”
