Woman hijacked in Northmead

A woman was hijacked at gunpoint in Northmead this morning (August 4).

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the 39-year-old female victim was approached by two men, one of whom was armed.

Sekele said the woman was reversing a blue Mazda Etude from her garage on Eighth Avenue.

“She got out of the vehicle to close the garage door when she suddenly saw two males,” said Sekele.

“One pointed a gun at her and told her to keep quiet.”

The spokesperson said the criminals jumped into the vehicle and sped off.

No arrests have been made.

A case of hijacking has been opened.
