The DA won 90.49 per cent (15 752 votes), the ANC won 5.52 per cent (961 votes) and VP+ won 1.71 per cent (297 votes).

Haggard was elated by the support, saying: “It has paid off after 18 long months.”

She thanked voters for making their mark and the previous councillor in the ward, Mary Goby, for the work she did in the past five years.

“My predecessor did a fantastic job; she created a good standard in the ward,” she said.

Haggard said she will look to uplift the community of Farrarmere Gardens, amongst other things.

“I would like to have an open door policy,” she added.

“I really want to get involved with the community forums so that people can get to know me as soon as possible.”
