The incident occurred around 7.30am.
EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said the victim of the robbery was bold enough to follow his assailants who were on foot.
“The victim sighted a metro police vehicle on patrol and alerted them of the robbery,” said Kgasago.
“A good description of the pair enabled the police to identify the two men.”
Kgasago added that the two were arrested a short distance from the robbery scene.
The men, aged between 26 and 19 years, were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds, a cellphone and money.
A case of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
